Solar Energy For Your Home
Before you try to build your own solar power, you need to have the right tools.
Breakthroughs in solar panel technology that might make it one of the primary sources of energy.
Solar energy is actually produced by the sun with no help or interference from man,
so it’s all natural and provided to us free of charge every day in the form of light and heat. Quite remarkable.
Solar energy is getting a lot of great publicity these days and rightly so,
and the question of how solar energy is produced and used is one of the many questions on people’s minds when they start to take an interest in all things solar.

We have already learned to wire solar cells in a series, the hard part is over. Now we can assemble our panel and produce electricity from the sun.
The solar panel box above was built using one sheet of 3/4 inch plywood for the base. It was framed out using 3/4 inch pieces of wood around the edges.
You can see in this picture that holes were drilled through the frame of the box to provide ventilation.
A layer of Masonite peg-board is cut to fit loosely in the wells and after being coated with UV guard placed inside the solar panel box.
When attaching the solar panel to the substrate you want to be careful not to damage it.
Lay your substrate material on to the solar cells positioning carefully and allowing the caulk to dry.
Using 2 pieces of properly gauged copper wire attach your positive leads and negative leads in series.
Each panel in a solar array needs to have a blocking diode installed to prevent damage to your batteries and inverter.
Once you have everything wired up and working properly you can install your Plexiglas top. Drill pilot holes to keep your Plexiglass from breaking using an appropriate sized drill bit.
Be creative in your choice of panel materials. I have seen old windows and new windows be used in homemade solar panel construction.

EASY TO MAKE SOLAR PANELS
Solar power is a very good source of power because it is renewable, environmental friendly and free. It would be a very nice idea to have a solar power system at home. However, due to the high setup cost ($2000 or more), not many people would use this system.
I am about to let you in on a little secret that can have you building your own solar panels for home use! By making your own solar power system that will save you thousands!
If you think buying a solar power system is too expensive for you, you can make it yourself with a much lower budget. You will need a solar panel first. You will use solar cells, wood plate, soldering iron, solder, flux, and tabbing to make a panel. These items are easy to get from local stores and you would not need any special tool. Even a novice can make it without problem.Solar panels are the wave of the future! So where do we start? How do you get your hands on the material to start building your own solar panels? Well lets first find out what solar panels are. That way you at least sound educated when you pitch this to your family!
Solar cells are almost always made from silicon, that is the same material we use to make computer chips. Silicon is one of the worlds most common elements, and is a leading component of sand and many kinds of rocks. A solar cell is built in layers, with two layers of silicon separated by a thin layer of insulating material. All three layers work together and convert sunlight into electricity.
When sunlight hits the solar cell, it produces an electric charge. Like a battery, the charge is positive on one side of the cell, and negative on the other side. Connecting a wire to the positive and to the negative side will allow electricity to flow. This flow, or current, can be used to power a small light bulb, turn an electric motor, or recharge a battery.
Broken solar cells can be bought for cheap money, and THEY STILL WORK! That is what I recommend. Of course you will need framing material to mount to the top of your house and two pieces of glass. The rest is pretty simple, hook your panels together, positive to positive and negative to negative, that way you get only 2 wires when you are done.Take these two wires and connect them to your power inverter and connect the power inverter to the electrical grid to your house. These steps seem hard but can be broken up into much simpler and easier steps.

Installation of a 30 watt solar panel for the Solaro Day™ on a shingle roof.
Introducing the Solaro Day™!
Hey! Theres light outside! So turn off your old fashioned, power guzzling lights and plug into the power of the sun with the Solaro Day™. Start enjoying the benefits that full spectrum natural sunlight will bring into your life! The newest innovation in solar lighting design on the market today! Solaros™ LEDlighting transforms hard to light areas into bright happy spaces by providing the same spectrum as natural light from the sun. This lighting system produces healthy daylight without the harmful effects of ultraviolet sunlight which can cause fading of carpets and furniture as does conventional skylighting systems. The Solaro Day™ can be installed in any room in the house, unlike traditional tubular skylights that have installation restrictions. And best of all, because it is non-intrusive to the roof structure, there is no need for cutting of the roof or ceiling, and no need to worry about water leakage! The Solaro Day™ is truly The Skylight Thats Not!™
How does it work?
Starting out at the roof level, Solaro™ has designed a line of special proprietary solar panels that collect sunlight, even on cloudy days, and converts it into safe low voltage DC power. We send that power to a Solaro Day™ daylight simulator for use inside your home or office. The Solaro Day™ daylight simulator will create the same light that a traditional or tubular skylight creates but without the costly installation including the cutting of a large hole in your roof or ceiling. The Solaro Day™ typically requires only a 1/2″ diameter hole drilled into your roof for the interconnect cable making the installation fast and simple! The engineering department at Solaro Energy™ has been designing skylights and solar powered point of use products for over 20 years with several patents to their credit, so we know sunlight and how to use it for mans benefit. We are confident that not only will the Solaro Day™ bring lower energy bills, but will bring comfort to your home and family!

Aide Solar featured two new products at Solar Power International 2009: batteries used for solar energy storage, and LED lights. Raymond Wiley, gave the Buildaroo News Team an in-depth interview about these new products.
Aide Solar batteries store the power derived from solar panels during the day for later use. These batteries are distinct from many others on the market because their cathodes are made of lithium ion phosphates, resulting in batteries that do not have the safety concerns (of explosions or fires) present amongst lead acid based batteries. The battery has 2000 charge cycles and a 6 year battery life, and the battery charges much faster than conventional ones. Furthermore, the battery can be recycled after its use.
In addition to their safety benefits, these batteries are 95% efficient relative to lead based batteries that are 60% efficient.
Aide Solar batteries can store energy derived from sources other than solar power, such as wind turbines.
Aide Solar also manufactures LEDs. They have a patented design that helps illuminate while dissipating the heat from the lights. Their LEDs have a 1 x 6 matrix configuration and can be combined into custom convex, concave, or flat structures, so that the lights can fit the specific application.
Aide Solar Photovoltaic ( PV ) panels and batteries are currently available, and their LEDs will be available in the 1st quarter of next year.
