A paper solar cell circuit is shown powering an LCD clock when illuminated. The entire integrated paper photovoltaic is then fed through a roll-to-roll office laser-jet printer. The resulting ink spells MIT on the device side of the paper array, which then continues to power the LCD clock. The clock circuitry is shown at the end of the video, which is powered by the photovoltaic alone and regulates a constant voltage to the display for variations in light intensity. The paper photovoltaic array is illuminated from below with simulated solar illumination.

http://www.SolarEnergyGuide.net – How to Make Solar – A Quick And Easy 101 Guide to Solar Energy Production
Making a solar at home is quite a daunting task and something that shouldn’t be attempted without fully committing oneself to a great deal of work. It may not be rocket science but it is certainly a tricky and laborious process. If you are the type of person who thinks a hammer is nothing but am odd-shaped door stop, it may be in your best interest to leave the solar construction to professionals.

Having said that, making your own solar s can really be a rewarding home project and by taking on such a project yourself you can significantly cut your costs – by 50 to 80% – over a commercially available solar .

Since the prohibitive cost of solar s is in large part due to the high price of solar cells, you will achieve most of your cost reduction by purchasing damaged and used solar cells from sites such as Ebay. After that, using your ingenuity and some handy DIY skills, the only thing between you and a working solar is time and effort.

For now however, let’s take on a much more simple task and make a single solar cell. This project is great fun and can show the basic and simple concept behind solar energy.

What You Will Need:

1. Copper sheeting.
2. Two alligator clip lead cables.
3. A sensitive micro-ammeter you can find this at Radio Shack.
4. An electric stove or a one burner hot plate should you have a gas stove . If you are buying a hot plate make sure it’s at least 1100 watts.
5. A large clear plastic bottle. Think 2 Liter Coke or Mineral Water bottles with the top cut off.
6. A few tablespoons of salt.
7. Water.
8. Sand paper, steel wool or a wire brush attachment for an electric drill.
9. Metal sheers.

How It’s Done: Cut a piece of copper sheeting at approximately the size of the stove burner. Make sure to thoroughly clean the copper sheet using sandpaper or steel wool to remove any sulfide and/or light corrosion. Heat the copper sheet on the burner on the highest heat setting As the copper increases its’ temperature the color will turn black with a layer of cupric oxide. This is normal. Let the copper “cook” for around 30 minutes. After 30 minutes turn of the burner and let the copper cool. It will shrink – also quite normal. The black cupric oxide will begin to flake and detach as both the oxide and copper shrink. It will take approximately 20 minutes for the copper to cool, at which point you will need to remove any excess cupric oxide black film left on the copper. You can scrub lightly with your hands under your tap. At this point cut another piece of copper at exactly the same size and dimensions as the “cooked” copper. Place both copper sheets into the plastic bottle, bending them carefully to fit and ensuring they do not touch. Attach the two alligator clips to each sheet, connecting the positive lead from the “Clean copper sheet” to the positive terminal of the meter, and the negative lead the “cooked” copper sheet to the negative terminal of the meter. Mix your 2 tablespoons of salt in with some hot water. Stir until the salt is dissolved. Carefully pour the salt water into the plastic bottle being careful to avoid pouring onto the leads. A good rule of thumb is to leave at least an inch between the water and the leads so you can move around the device with relative ease.

A solar cell is a battery, so you can expect that even in the dark your meter will show a few microamps of current. Don’t expect that it will light a baseball field though, and it would take acres of these literally to power your house. I sincerely doubt there would be enough power generated by this to power a light bulb. However, once you put this device in the sunlight you will see the meter jump to 30+ microamps of current – which would be enough to use your new solar cell as a light meter or light detector.

If we staleness be truthful to ourselves, then we all can happen that we are rattling protection an energy crisis as a matter of fact.

It makes a entire lot of judgement to excogitate the advantages of solar energy as a shaper of your electrical energy.

With improving energy prices, tapering fossil supply supplies, and environmental and imperfect concerns, all ears are adjusted to the solar energy possibilities.

But put, that the solar generator is a gadget that runs all your electrical appliances by making use of the solar energy. The gadget change solar energy into electrical energy by making use of photovoltaic cells. This solar generator is as fine titled “the solar lighting system”.

But using solar energy to index plutonic governance devices and using solar energy to land your house are worlds separate, and the discourse on everyone’s minds is, “Is solar energy all it’s rough up to be, and how practical is it to count using solar energy to quality my home?”

Facts about solar energy :

· Solar energy is a renewable resource (it may go away at night, but we will always have it.)

· Solar energy will not pollute our air with carbon dioxide and other harmful greenhouse gases and bad emissions.

Solar energy can be used on different aspects. Solar energy will be used in agriculture. Greenhouses (which is whole distinct from greenhouse gas) exchange solar light-weight to change to be maximized in enhancing the growth of plants and crops.

Greenhouses has been around since the Romanist nowadays and bodoni greenhouses were engineered in Aggregation in sixteenth century. Greenhouses are works an strategic object of husbandry now,

I can testify now that nearly everybody is searching for ways to go green and more energy efficient. To welcome alternative energy production methods, there are lots of reasons for that.

Also immature does whatever folks see that by making use of solar power is a big way to enhance the environmentally friendliness of your house and yet counselling a contemporary chronicle with all the conveniences.

You can forbid a lot of money
Solar power costs near 80% fewer than your flowing service program. So if your exciting greenback now runs $150 per month, with solar power your electric measure would only expenditure $40.

Generating your own power at minimal pays you an superfluous $100 every period. And that’s if you pay a retiring $150 a period for your utilities – $400 or more is not an particular “median” programme post…

Can you really afford to not use solar energy in your home?
You want to know the solar energy benefits or maybe the solar energy advantages?

http://www.homemadepowerplant.com/?hop=adonpub Professor David Faiman, Head of the Ben-Gurion National Solar Energy Research Center and developer of a new solar cell that can produce over one thousand times more electric power than a conventional photovoltaic or PV, states, ‘The achievement is that we separate out the collection function of a photovoltaic cell to the light conversion to electricity function. When we collect the light, instead of using a huge area of solar cells, we use an equal area of cheap glass mirrors and they are curved in such a way as to concentrate the light onto a very small solar cell, the size of just one cell, and in this way you concentrate the light a thousand times and you can get a thousand times more power out of a small cell.’ This is truly an amazing development with several practical applications.

Embracing the move towards renewable energy sources, Kyosemi have revolutionized the design of the traditional solar cell, increasing it’s power generation efficiency and paving the way for innovative applications and a more economical use of raw materials. Sphelar is a spherical micro solar cell, which unlike traditional flat solar cells, can effectively harness reflected and diffused solar light as well as direct light from all directions. Each cell, is 1 to 1.5 mm and can be connected in parallel or in series, allowing for a limitless range of shapes and uses including flexible solar cells, round solar cells, or power-generating windows for buildings or offices while maintaining a certain level of transparency. Also, compared to the production process for traditional solar cells there is a dramatic reduction in the amount of wasted silicon. “In the process of producing spherical spolar cells, molten silicon is used. It’s dripped from an elevated position, and crystallizes as a sphere in mid-air, so using this process no silicon is wasted in the production of solar cells.” Kyosemi have also developed the SphelarVoice which is a battery-free wireless audio optical information system that receives information via infrared rays. The SphelarVoice uses an array of LEDs to emit a light signal which is recieved by the solar cells, converted into an electrical signal on the battery-free wireless handset and sent to the speaker.

WARNING: THE CAMERA FLASH CIRCUIT GENERATES UNPROTECTED HIGH VOLTAGE WHICH CAN CAUSE ELECTRIC SHOCK AND BURNS! DO NOT TOUCH THE CONTACTS OF THE CAPACITOR WHEN IT IS FULLY CHARGED! USE THE NECESSARY PRECAUSTIONS WHEN HANDLING THE CAMERA FLASH CIRCUIT! DO NOT HANDLE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!

I was playing with the Camera Flash circuit board (not sure that is a wise thing!) when I had the idea that maybe it could be used to light a mains household light bulb…?

These are my first recorded experiments, I am quite happy with the results!

DC to AC Inverter Power Supply:-

This circuit only requires a steady 5v to 15v DC input to be capable of producing a 120v to 230v AC 50/60Hz output supply. Since the Camera Flash Circuit is capable of producing 330v/55W across the capacitor, I reckon stepping down that voltage and regulating it to the input of the 555 Inverter circuit, would be stable enough to produce a steady 230v AC output… enough to run a household low energy light bulb?

And then integrating the circuit with the Photo-Voltaic Cell to charge the battery during the day.

I know it’s a long shot! I got the idea from the video “How to Power a TV using a AAA battery”

and if you watch my Stepping Up Transformer videos then maybe it is not such a crazy idea…?
