This video shows our first successful trial lighting an 11W 220 V CFL using a 1.5 V AAA battery and a CVS disposable camera flash circuit. In a future video I will show how we hacked the CVS camera circuit. I learned the idea from great folks using Fuji camera circuits; the CVS camera is similar to the Fuji but for patent reasons the battery has the opposite polarity (important to know – but the positive terminal to the long side of the holder!) and the contact points are much different (I hunted around for a while before finding the right place to connect the CFL, as shown in this video). Note that you have to bridge the left contact point and the bottom of the copper switch with a bit of solder (this will be shown in the next video); it isn’t just a matter of touching the two contact points. And be careful you don’t shock yourself — even with only a 1.5 V battery and no capacitor the circuit is live and hot! We demonstrated this lighting technique at a Catholic Youth Group symposium in Slovakia this weekend and all agreed these lights will be very valuable in areas that have no electricity or in disasters as ways of getting good lighting without using any dangerous fuels; great for developing countries (we are all working in Africa, for example, where we intend to teach others how to do this). We encourage everybody who can to send us their disposable cameras (take out your film yourself and send to a normal developer if you still use film) so we can make more of these for poor regions. Also note that now poor areas can use very small inexpensive solar panels to charge AA and AAA batteries which can be then used at night to run the lights.

http://www.solarpanelsquick.com – There are many different ways you can get cheap solar panels. There are dozens of websites available that can walk you through the whole process of making your own solar energy systems, with the panels being made for pennies on the dollar.

These sites can also give you other helpful tips and information about getting solar panel components for extremely cheap, or even free.

One of the ways to find cheap solar panels, or sometimes free panels is to road construction companies that use solar panels to power lights for their job sites.

Sometimes these panels get damaged from rocks hitting them. While most of the panel is still good, companies often just buy new systems, throwing the damaged ones away. You can get these damaged panels very inexpensively, or even free.

While you may not be able to use the panel itself, it can be carefully broken down and the individual cells that are not damaged can be used in your own panels.

There is another way to get cheap solar panels as well. Big businesses and corporations often use solar arrays to power their commercial buildings. Because new panels come out every few years or so, these companies often upgrade on a regular basis.

The ‘old’ panels are often given away through programs for those individuals who want to change over to solar power. While they may be ‘old’ and out dated for the business, to you the regular person, these panels are still quite efficient, and can last for residential purposes many decades.

The internet also offers many other ways to get cheap solar panels. There are auction websites like eBay that sell solar panels, battery storage, inverters, and many other components to the highest bidder.

If you are building your own panels, you can also buy the photovoltaic cells here too. While it is important that you get these components for you solar power needs, you don’t always have to pay retail to do it.

You just have to be patient, do a little research, and look around for the highest quality components for the most reasonable prices.

While there are many different DIY websites, you want to find one that walks you through the process step-by-step, and provides the information to find your components.

LED Lighting For Our RV, DIY Install Save Energy. I Bought these on Ebay and installed these in our recreation vehicle to save our battery power. They worked way better than expected. Not cheap but well worth the investment. With the isolation of a 45 watt solar panel and these, It probably gave us an extra week of battery power.
The lights are installed in our 1979 vintage 28′ Avion travel trailer.
Here are some other videos about the trailer;

LuminAID is actually an inflatable plastic pillow with a thin solar panel and two coin cell batteries. The package can be inflated and deflated down to where it can be packed completely flat. Photovoltaic film is laminated to polyethelenevinyl acetate plastic. The LuminAID device inflates to produce a quality of light similar to a lantern. A white-dot pattern on the device diffuses the light.

Solar powered dancing lights on the pier in Zadar, Croatia. The Greeting to the Sun, as the monument is referred to – a large art installation consisting of 300 solar plates incorporated in the stone quay in the shape of a circle, measures 22 meters in diameter.

The monument symbolizes the Sun while the solar plates absorbs solar energy in daytime, transforming into unusual light effects during the night.
